Kanimozhi projects herself as a dutiful mother in bail plea

New Delhi, May 30: With Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief and Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi cooling her heels in the Tihar Jail over her involvement in the 2G spectrum scam, her bail plea will once again come up for hearing on May 30 at the Delhi High Court. The special CBI court had earlier rejected her bail plea sending her to the jail.

After playing the gender card and portraying her as a hapless woman, Kanimozhi"s lawyer Ram Jethmalani, this time around is showcasing her as a responsible mother and sought relief in the pretext of having to look after her school going child.

The earlier plea was rejected by the Special CBI Court Judge, Justice OP Saini after she was named in the CBI charge sheet as an active-brain in the Rs 200 crore bribe received by Kalaignar TV. The judge also stated that witnesses might be influenced if she was sent out on bail.

Kani"s arrest had brought considerable shame to the DMK and led to strain in the Congress-DMK alliance at the Centre. She was named the co-conspirator in the CBI chargesheet and her transactions with jailed former Telecom Minister A Raja had come under the spotlight.

The CBI court is expected to give its order on Karim Morani"s bail application, who is another accused in the spectrum scam. The owner of Cineyug Films Pvt Ltd had sought bail on medical grounds, with the court deciding to reserve its order on May 30. Morani had been accused of accepting Rs 6 crore kickbacks for assisting the Rs. 200 crore transaction from DB Realty to Kalaignar TV. His earlier anticipatory bail plea on medical grounds was rejected by the special court on May 23.
