Rome, May 27: The triple world record holder Usain Bolt has won gold in 100m race at Rome Diamond League meetings.
The Olympic champion clocked 9.91 seconds to beat the former record-holder Asafa Powell, who settled for silver with 9.93 seconds. It was Bolt's first race after he was beaten by Tyson Gay in Aug 2010. After a slow start, Bolt struggled hard to win the gold with his very last strides.
Bolt, the fastest man on the planet, was unsatisfied with his performance, but pleased with his win. Bolt managed to take lead only after the 98m.
"I got that race completely wrong. I was nervous as it was my first race of the season. Thanks to everyone, I did everything I could for these crowds who have helped me" Bolt said after the race.
Asafa Powell was also happy with his performance. He said, "I was too focused on Usain. If I had concentrated on my own race I would have won. I wasted this race; it was one I could have won. I have to remain focused. I know what I can do."
Christophe Lemaitre won the bronze by clocking 10 seconds.
