Srinagar, May 27: An over ground worker (OGW) of the Lashkar-e-Toiba, allegedly involved in the murder of Hurriyat leader Sheikh Aziz in 2008, was on May 26 arrested in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, police said.

The OGW, identified as Showkat Ahmad Khan of Khanpora village in Baramulla, was arrested at a check-point in nearby Kanispora locality, a police spokesman said.

Khan, a former militant, was active during the late 1990s and he was arrested for his involvement in the murder of moderate Hurriyat leader, he said.

He had provided the weapon of offence to the prime accused in the Sheikh Aziz murder case and after his release he had continued to be affiliated to the banned militant outfit, the spokesman said.

Khan was also wanted in an attempt to murder case of an engineer in Baramulla district.
