Varanasi, May 26: The Dental Council of India (DCI) today (May 21) expressed concern that the lack of faculty members is hampering the practical training among the students in the major dental colleges in the country.

"Students in the BDS (Graduate level) is much less in comparison to the MDS (Post-graduate level) in the major dental institutions in the country, which led to the faculty shortage in the field," Dental Council of India Director Dr D Majumder said during a function to launch mobile dental van service in Benaras Hindu University (BHU).

He said that in most of the colleges across the country, teaching was going on mostly with the help of guest faculties due to dearth of proper teaching staff.

Majumder, however, said that despite this situation, government-run colleges were at par compared to private colleges in terms of delivering quality education.

He also strongly backed the proposed plan to employ budding medical practitioners in villages during their initial years, saying that this will not only provide them a first hand experience, but will also boost the essence of public service among them.

Several eminent personalities, including varsity V-C Dr DP Singh were present on the occasion.
