Kani, Raja, Kalmadi in jail; PM, Sonia plan party tonight

Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi, May 22: Good time has returned after a long time for the ruling government - UPA II led by Manmohan Singh. Despite several scam and corruption charges against the government, the UPA II finally managed to complete its uninterrupted two years on Sunday, May 22.

After simultaneous attacks from opposition parties and aam admi led by Gandhian crusader Anna Hazare, the government must have taken a sigh of relief after the assembly poll 2011 results. Congress managed to continue its rein for third consecutive term in Assam, and succeeded to fetch a eye-catching win in West Bengal and Kerala. Though the massive defeat in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry left the ruling government strained.

Along with rising prices of commodities, UPA government faced criticism for several scam allegations. 2G spectrum scam, CWG 2010 irregularities and Adarsh Housing scam are few of them which might have left Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi sleepless for a long time.

However, with the arrest of former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi (two prime accused in 2G scam) and former CWG OC chief Suresh Kalmadi (believed to be the mastermind behind CWG irregularities), the prime minister and Congress general secretary finally have taken a sigh of relief. The arrest of the three big names with prominent portfolios gave the government a chance to retain its clear image.

The party sources have confirmed that a lavish party will be conducted at the prime minister residence on Sunday night. Though DMK party, led by former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, has not yet confirmed their decision to attend or to skip the party. It seems that 2G spectrum scam left a incurable wounds on DMK-Congress alliance.
