According to latest rumour mills reports, Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS update will be available soon on Asus EEE Pad Transformer tablet and Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet. Android 3.1 update will be rolled out over-the-air in June 2011. These two tablets will join Motorola Xoom to get early OS update.
Google announced the Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS during its annual I/O Developers Conference. The new 3.1 update adds several new capabilities for users and developers, making it enough powerful to compete with the market dominator, Apple iPad 2.
Android 3.1 Honeycomb version adds a variety of refinements to make the user interface more intuitive and more efficient to use. The Launcher animation in UI is optimized for faster, smoother transition to and from the Apps list.
The most exciting feature on Android 3.1 is the support for USB-connected peripherals and accessories. Users can attach many types of input devices like keyboards, mice, game controllers and digital cameras and can easily 'copy paste' those to tablets and vice-versa. It works as a USB host.
Another feature is the resizable Home screen widgets, which allows users to resize their Home screen widgets using drag bars provided by the system. Users can expand widgets both horizontally and/or vertically to include more content, where supported by each widget.
Both Asus EEE Pad Transformer tablet and Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet have a 10-inch touchscreen display, runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS powered with 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra dual core processors. Both tablets offer 5 megapixel cameras at rear. Unlike the Acer Iconia Tab A500, Asus EEE Pad Transformer tablet has an additional keyboard docking station that makes it to a full-fledged laptop or netbook.
