Mamata offers Cong role in West Bengal Ministry
Elated at the landslide victory, Mamata will meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday to witness the swearing-in ceremony of Mamata Banerjee, the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. She wants the top leaders to be part of the historical event and the first non-Left rule in the state since the last three decades.
After her meeting with Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday, Mamata has been quoted as saying, “We want honourable Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi to be present on the day of our swearing-in. I will accompany Pranab Da to Delhi and invite them, and will decide on the date of swearing-in accordingly."
She had earlier hinted that she would want the Congress to be part of the West Bengal Ministry. With her looming presence in the Centre in the capacity of Railway Minister, she has expressed her desire to retain the Railway Ministry with the TMC with the top post going most likely to Mukul Roy, a party leader in TMC.
With a productive meeting with Pranab Mukherjee, Mamata, he said, “We discussed about the formation of state government in Bengal. We also discussed how the two political parties (Trinamool and Congress), under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, will create a new Bengal."
