New York, May 2: The death of al-Qaeda leader and the mastermind behind 9/11 terrorist attacks, Osama Bin Laden, was officially confirmed by United States President Barack Obama and the White House released the images of Osama's dead body. But, a few hours before the Obama's announcement, Bin Laden's death news was leaked through microblogging website, Twitter.

Keith Urbahn, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's chief of staff, tweeted the death of Osama Bin Laden a few hours before Obama's official announcement. His tweet reads, "So I'm told by a reputable person they have killed Osama Bin Laden. Hot damn."

During the "the most significant and historic win" announcement, Obama said that Laden was killed in US operation in Abbottabad, 150 km away from Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.

"Tonight I can report to the American people and the world that the United States has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden," Obama said during the announcement.

Obama said that US officials got reliable information on Osama's hiding place on Sunday itself. He authorized a team of Americans to conduct the operation.
