After Cong suspension, Kalmadi set to lose IOA Prez role
Adding insult to injury, Kalmadi was suspended from the Congress Party on Monday for bringing shame to the party. As Lok Sabha MP from Pune, Maharashtra he was able to retain his party post after he kept reiterating that he was innocent in all the allegation levelled against him. But Monday's arrest proved all wrong, when the CBI came up with clinching evidence against him. The CBI claims that Kalmadi and Co gave the time keeping contract to a Swiss co unfairly.
Kalmadi is most likely to end up loosing his position as the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) as well. The Sports Minister, Ajay Maken has been quoted as saying that he would write to the IOA on the turn of events and would not want Kalmadi to head a post who has been chargesheeted. Meanwhile, Maken also said that he was seeking legal opinion from the Law Ministry to enable the Sports Ministry to take a decision on ousting Kalmadi from the post in case the IOA does not act.
Various corruption charges were levelled against Kalmadi and many arrests followed in this regard. Those arrested include Sanjay Mohindroo, M Jayachandran, TS Darbai, Kalmadi's personal assistant Shekhar Deorukhkar, Verma and Lalit Bhanot. More arrests are likely including those of senior OC officials Surjeet Lal and ASV Prasad.
