Arambagh (WB), April 26: Enthused by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement that West Bengal was the worst-governed state in the country, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today (April 26) said that the Centre had assured to protect voters.

"Chidambaram has termed it as the worst-governed state as CPI(M) has done nothing except terrorise to perpetuate its rule all these years," Banerjee told an election meeting here in Hooghly district where elections will be held in the fourth phase on May three.

Urging the people to vote fearlessly, the Trinamool supremo said "unite against Marxist threats and vote to end Left Front misrule.

"If there is apprehension that genuine voters are being prevented from going to polling stations, we will immediately inform the Election Commission and urge the Union home minister to deploy more central forces," Banerjee said.

She said if the CPI(M) returned to power there would be disaster and people's misery would increase manifold.

Banerjee alleged that the CPI(M) in Hooghly and neighbouring districts were supplying arms and the police were not allowed to act properly to unearth them.

In an oblique reference to the foul language used by CPI(M) leader Anil Basu at a rally here a few days ago, Banerjee said "party leaders are used to using obscene language." Banerjee said if elected to power, Trinamool Congress would probe each and every offence case by case. "Nobody will be spared."

She reiterated her allegation that the CPI(M) was hand-in-glove with both the Maoists and the BJP.
