Rizwanur death: Todis, IPS officers charged in suicide case

Kolkata, Apr 21: Rizwanur Rahman death case has taken an important turn when a fast track city court on Thursday, Apr 21 charged Ashok Todi and three more people for abetment to suicide of Rizwanur.

The fast track court also charged the four accused with criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy. However, the court has dropped the abetment to suicide charge against the three top police officials.

After the court pronounced its decision, the Todis, including all other accused informed that they will move the Kolkata High Court. Sources informed that the High Court trial will commence from May 16.

Meanwhile, Rizwanur's family and the CBI sources claimed that they are also likely to move the High Court against not charging the police officers with abetment to suicide.

Rizwanur, who got married with Todi's daughter, Priyanka without Todi family's consent, was found dead on a railway track near North Kolkata"s Dumdum area on Sep 21, 2007.

Seven people including Todi, owner of the Rs 200 crore Lux Cozi hosiery brand, his brother Pradip and brother in-law Anil Sarogi are accused in the case along with senior IPS officers then serving in the Kolkata police.
