WB: Poll campaign disrupted; Advani & Rahul Gandhi stranded

Siliguri, Apr 14: The heavy rain with thunder-storm disrupted election campaign of BJP and Congress leaders. LK Advani and Rahul Gandhi - the two top leaders of the two parties stranded in the north Bengal's most busiest city - Siliguri on Thursday, Apr 14.

Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri were lashed out by heavy rains on Thursday and BJP leaders LK Advani and Nitin Gadkari were barred to proceed with their election campaign in the state which is going to hold its first phase assembly poll on Monday, Apr 18.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also faced hazards while campaigning for his party as the entire north Bengal is experiencing heavy raining since Wednesday, Apr 13.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jalpaiguri Range) D T Lepcha informed, "The Malbazar meeting had to be ended abruptly. Gandhi was scheduled to fly to Mothabari (in Malda district) for his third meeting. However, due to the bad weather, he drove to Bagdogra airport in Darjeeling, from where he took a special flight to Purnia in Bihar."

He also informed, "He has reached Purnia. If the weather improves, he will fly by a chopper to Malda or will travel by road. If neither of the two options is possible, then the Malda meeting will be cancelled."

Sources informed that Advani was scheduled to fly to Falakata and Madarihat areas of Jalpaiguri.
