Jaitley's conspiracy theory on the 2G probe and TN elections
Jaitley was talking to the media when he exposed the dubious connection that the spectrum scam has with the key candidates in the state elections. He also took the opportunity to slam the CBI chargesheet that did not address the prime issue of the humongous loss to the country's exchequer. He added, “There are serious allegations relating to the favours shown to the DMK, a partner of the UPA. It seems that part of the investigation was postponed. Hence, the timetable of the investigation was being influenced by the TN elections."
Jaitley also pointed fingers on the CBI's decision to defer the probe into DMK receiving part of the 2G loot till after the elections. He accused the CBI of tweaking the timetable of the probe to suit vested interests and also thrashed its arguments that stressed that the Prime Minister was defied or misled. He commented, “I do not think observations related to political clean chits need not be given in chargesheets, which should only deal with criminality."
The BJP leader also took a jibe at the Public Accounts Committee and the Joint Parliamentary Committee that have been constituted to probe into the scam. He said the committees surpassed their own jurisdiction to avoid landing at loggerheads with each other. He quoted on the issue, “Even when the same issue is being looked into by two different panels, you expect institutions to act in such a manner in which there is no contradiction. Parliamentary institutions have the strength to reconcile their roles."
