Mumbai, Apr 1: BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla today assured that the board is "trying" to reach an agreement with the ICC to remove the ban on Indian news channels from covering the final of the World Cup, to be held at the Wankhede stadium here tomorrow.

"The ICC president has seized on the matter. We are having a meeting with ICC officials, where BCCI president (Shashank Manohar) will also be present. We are trying to resolve the matter," said Shukla.

The International Cricket Council early this morning barred Indian news channels from covering the pre-match press conference of both the captains ahead of the summit clash between India and Sri Lanka, accusing them of breaching the accreditation guidelines.

"ICC''s contention is that they have got commercial obligations. These obligations need to be fulfilled, otherwise their sponsors are going to create problems for them," said Shukla, who is also the chairman of BCCI''s media committee.

"Their view is also correct, but we are trying to find a way out. There are certain channels, which according to them (ICC), are flouting their guidelines. Therefore this problem has arisen," he added.

The government's intervention too, could not resolve the issue.

"Government negotiation is over. Yesterday, they had a meeting, but nothing could be resolved. So, today we are trying to solve it amongst ourselves," Shukla said.

Earlier in the day, representatives of the news channels, who had come to attend the press conferences of the rival captains and ICC president Sharad Pawar, were asked to stay out of the Wankhede stadium complex.

Despite marathon negotiations to resolve the matter last night, the News Broadcasters' Association (NBA) and the ICC could not reach an agreement on terms of coverage.

The TV channels had faced a similar ban ahead of the semi-final between India and Pakistan in Mohali before the Information and Broadcasting ministry stepped in to help their cause.
