Google reveals +1 Button; Answer to Facebook's 'Like'

California, Mar 31: In a move to compete Facebook's 'Like' button, the search engine giant Google has announced the launch of a social product dubbed as '+1' button. The new +1 allows users to share their recommendations with the world right in Google"s search results.

Google said the new +1 feature is the digital shorthand for "this is pretty cool." The +1 button will appear in all search results and the users can recommend a particular search result link with the +1 button. This recommended links will appear in users' friends search result.

"Say, for example, you"re planning a winter trip to Tahoe, Calif. When you do a search, you may now see a +1 from your slalom-skiing aunt next to the result for a lodge in the area. Or if you"re looking for a new pasta recipe, we"ll show you +1"s from your culinary genius college roommate. And even if none of your friends are baristas or caffeine addicts, we may still show you how many people across the web have +1"d your local coffee shop," Google said in its blog.

Google claimed that they use many signals to identify the most useful recommendations for a users. Google will look in to things like users friends connected through Google, connections on social networking sites like Twitter. Check out the +1 button here.

For using Google +1 feature, users have to create a Google profile or update their profile. Users can see all of their +1"s in one place, and also can delete those they no longer want to recommend. This feature will be available only after login through Google account.

Currently, the +1 button is available in, but soon it will expanded to more places, other Google products and sites across the web. Google's new feature is said to be a move to make its search result more friendly and socially connected. Also, we can expect more features in the rumored Google's upcoming social networking site, Google Circles.
