Peshwar, mar 31: After the whistle-blower WikiLeaks exposed that 'Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam' chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had offered to mediate between US and the terror outfit Taliban, another suicide attack happened to kill Rehman. This is the second attack on Rehman in two successive days. More than nine people have been killed and 16 were injured during the attack.

Sources informed that Rehman was passing through a busy street in a motor convoy in Charsadda district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, Mar 31. Though Rehman managed to escape the attack, many of his body guards were injured.

Eyewitnesses said that a man blew himself up while the convoy carrying Rehman passed by. Rehman's car was damaged.

The Hindu on Mar 26 accessed cables leaked by WikiLeaks that reveal Rehman had sent a message to the US embassy in New Delhi offering to mediate with the Taliban. The daily also reported that Muslim leaders in New Delhi stayed away from Fazlur Rehman when he visited the city in May 2006. He again visited the following year. He then offered his services as a mediator between the US and the Taliban.
