Six arrested who perpetrated attack on Sri Lankan cricketers

Lahore, Mar 30: After the Interpol gave a green signal for no terror threats to Mohali, where the India-Pakistan drama will be played out during the semi-final match on Mar 30, there were terrorists elsewhere who have been arrested for their involvement in the attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team while their Pakistan tour in 2009.
The attack on the cricketers led to death of six policemen and injured six players in the Sri Lankan cricket team. The news was revealed by Lahore police chief Muhammad Aslam Tareen on Tuesday that four of the deadly terrorists captured were the ones who attacked the team bus on Mar 3, 2009. The mastermind of the attack was Amanullah alias Asadullah.
The six Sri Lankan cricketers who were injured were captain Mahela Jayawaredene, his deputy Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera, Tharanga Paranavitana and Chaminda Vaas. The bus they were traveling were attacked. They were on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium for a Test match when gun men showered bullets on the bus.
Tareen said on the arrests, “The terrorists wanted to kidnap the Sri Lankan team and then make a demand to the government for the release of their important leaders arrested by law enforcement agencies."
The information was revealed following an interrogation of two suspects. The newspaper Daily Times reported that suicide vests, rocket launchers, Kalashnikovs, hand-grenades and other weapons were recovered from them by the police. The officials added that four of the six terrorist captured were part of the attack on the Sri Lankan team.
