Sources reported that the 42 league matches in the world cup reached over 175 million households in the country, which is 48 percent more than the previous world cup, and 30 percent higher than IPL-3.
Prices of the tickets for tomorrow's semi-fianl are touching sky high but the hype is not only limited to tickets, the advertisement world is also floating with unbelievable cricket frenzy.
While sports TV channel ESPN Star charged Rs 3.5 lakh for 10 seconds ad during the league match of the world cup, the channel took a huge jump taking advantage of the India-Pakistan semi-final. The channel are reportedly charging between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 18 lakh per 10 seconds ad, sources reported.
"India-England match was about Rs 12 lakh to Rs 13 lakh...and it's India-Pakistan, it's semifinal, it's knock out...so between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, if it is a good contest, is a safe bet," stated MEC India MD T Gangadhar.
Indo-Pak semi-final has been much hyped. The cricket game received the politicial tune when cricket diplomacy has been added. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh invited his Pakistani counterpart to see the match at Mohali. Pakisntani PM Yousuf Raza Gilani also accepted Singh's invitation. Both Singh and Gilani will watch the match together, and is believed to hold some important issues which keep haunting the two nations.
