Major UPA-ally DMK did not get enough votes to be part of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that is probing the 2G spectrum scam, another one from the Opposition in the form of NDA partner JD(U) also failed to be part of the circus. The DMK's Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi Siva and JD(U)'s Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh were the one that failed to make the cut.
The numbers seemed to have played politics for some regional parties. The DMK lost in spite of the fact that they have a seven-member presence in the Upper House , while Shiromani Akali Dal member Naresh Gujral scrapped through even though they had a dismal three-member presence there. He was also supported by the BJP that polled 29 first preference votes that led to the tables turning for him.
It was also an exercise that saw friends turning foes with BSP and SP bacing each others candidates for the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU). The ones who made it to the committee include SP"s chief whip in the LS, Shailendra Kumar and BSP"s Bhismshankar (Kushal) Tiwari who were both elected on the basis of second preference votes.
