New York, Mar 22: The BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) has started the sale of its tablet PC, PlayBook, in United States. This new tablet is available for pre-ordering with the price tag similar to market leader Apple iPad 2.

The BlackBerry PlayBook with Wi-Fi will be available in three models and will feature a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $499 and will be available in more than 20,000 retail outlets in the US and Canada.

"The BlackBerry PlayBook is an amazing tablet that is already being widely praised as a multi-tasking powerhouse with an uncompromised web experience and an ultra-portable design," said Mike Lazaridis, President & Co-CEO, Research In Motion.

The PlayBook has a 7-inch capacitive touch screen display with 1024x600 WSVGA resolution. It runs on BlackBerry Tablet operating system powered with 1 GHz dual-core processor. BlackBerry PlayBook offers dual camera, a 3 megapixel front facing for video calling and a 5 megapixel at rear.

Other features on PlayBook include Bluetooth, WiFi, HDMI out, 64 GB internal storage MP3, AAC and WMA audio playback etc.
