Earlier local giants East Bengal's hopes of making the last four got a big blow when Mohammadan Sporting earned a 1-1 draw as the Federation Cup and Calcutta League champions slipped to bottom of the group A standings.
After a goalless first-half, Mohammadan Sporting took the lead by a goal from Christopher Chizoba who converted a penalty but East Bengal rode on Baljit Singh Sahni's 86th minute header to escape another shock loss.
East Bengal (one point from two matches) had lost their first match against Southern Samity (6/2) who lead the table with two consecutive wins as the result meant that the red and gold brigade slipped to the bottom of the five-team standings in group A.
The draw meant Mohammadan Sporting (4/3) hold the second spot while the China outfit (3/3) revived their hopes after beating Churchill Brothers (3/2) as the contest for the last four spot is wide open in their group.
Having lost to Southern Samity and Mohammadan Sporting, Shandong Lueng kept their hopes alive as they struck back to back goals through Mi Hao Lung (22nd) and Cheg Wean (24th).
