Will FIFA Prez Sepp Blatter be challenged? Wait till Mar 18

By Biswajeet Panda
Kuala Lumpur, Mar 14: Mohammed Bin Hammam, chief of the Asian Football Confederation is supposed to "clarify his position" regarding the FIFA presidential elections on Mar 18. Speculations are rife that he may stand against Sepp Blatter in the upcoming presidential polls of FIFA.

on Mar 14, the AFC said that he will address the issue at the organisation's headquarter in Kuala Lumpur on Mar 14. The last date for declaring an intention to contest the polls is Mar 31.

Bin Hammam, who was earlier elected unopposed for his third and final stint as the premier of Asian football, has several times hinted at his aspirations for the top job in world football. Sepp Blatter is the President of FIFA since 1998. As of now, there are no candidates up against him.

On his Twitter account, Bin Hammam said, "I am happy with most confederations, but I don't know about Europe and how they will deal with my candidacy."

He also wrote, "Europe is the core of football. I would like now to make a real assessment in Europe."

Once thick as thieves, the duo now share a bitter relation with Hammam being critical of Blatter's management in recent times.
