Lucknow, Mar 12: As if brutality knows no boundaries especially when it comes from Uttar Pradesh, this stomach-churning piece of news was disturbing nonetheless. 10 people that included five children and three women were burnt alive at Maharajganj district of UP. The incident was the result of a revenge attack carried out by supporters of the village pradhan (village head).

The attack happened following the death of the village head, Dina Nath Singh who was shot dead following a land dispute. The Special Director General of Police (law and order) Brij Lal said, “He was shot dead by Ayodhya Dubey, Dwarka Dubey, Krishna Murari, Dhirendra Kumar Dubey and others over an old land dispute in Digahi village this morning."

As retaliation for the death of their leader, the supporters attacked the houses of the accused. "The supporters of Dina Nath torched houses of Dwarka Dubey and Ayodhya Dubey in which five children, two men and three women died either due to burn injuries or asphyxia," Brij Lal added.

The police could do little in the volatile situation that emerged in the region and were blocked from entering the area by locals who started pelting stones at them. Police sources say that Dina Nath had bought land that belonged to the Dubey's and when he wanted to take possession of the property, he was blocked that led to the altercation.

Four people have been arrested in this regard and interrogation is on. 40 others have been arrested on charges of arson.
