Nitish Kumar cleans up Bihar government; effort laudable
In the latest landmark move by the Bihar CM, the asset details of close to 80,000 government officials have been made public through the official website of the government. An official said on the effort, “These include officers from the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Police Service, the Indian Foreign Service and the state administration."
In what can be called a revolutionary move that is sure to win him lots of laurels, Nitish Kumar is winning public credibility with the move. The principal secretary of the general administration department, Deepak Kumar said that this was the first-of-its-kind in the country.
Submitted by the government officials as part of an official directive, close to 90 percent of the 4.5 lakh officials had submitted the details. The Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues had already made the submissions earlier to bring about better transparency. The CM said, “ It's a lot of data; these are details of lakhs of officials."
The circular was given out a good 10 days back and certain officials who have not submitted the details will have their salary withheld if they did not submit them within the stipulated time.
When India suffers a major set back with the huge amounts of illegal and unaccounted money with politicians, Nitish' bold move has become a welcome break from disheartening news of rapid corruption in the country.
