Following tremendous pressure from media and students of the university, now, Karnataka police on Thursday, Mar 10, arrested the accused - Professor Shivabasavaiah of the Department of Zoology. However, sources informed that the accused got bail and he has been released.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr V G Talawar earlier claimed, "We're enquiring into this. We have suspended the professor." However, the irony here takes place as the Talawar too is under the scanner for allegedly siding with the accused professor.
Police, now, booked the vice chancellor Talawar for abetment in the crime. Sources reported that the university was forced to suspend the accused after the suicide attempt of the victim.
Professor Shivabasavaiah is accused of sexual molestation of a scholar who was reportedly pursuing a research under the guidance if the detained professor of the university.
Several media reports also claimed that the state government soon will move the governor HR Bhardwaj for intervening in the sexual molestation case of the reputed university of Karnataka.
"The state government should write a letter to the governor in this regard," said Janata Dal (Secular) leader MC Nanaiah. Many raised voice against the vice chancellor as asking for a special inquiry against the professor as well as the vice-chancellor of the university.
Citing the case, educationist Prof PV Krishna Bhat stated, "The case in Mysore University is one of very few cases which has surfaced. There are many such cases which go unreported, as women students lacked a protective mechanism."
