For Real Madrid, the star of the victory was Karim Benzema. Playing together with Emmanuel Adebayor as strikers for the first time, he scored two impressive goals to see Real romp home.
In the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Oezil the German play-maker was assigned the task of leading the Real Madrid attack and he responded brilliantly with a couple of beautiful assistance to Adebayor in the 23rd minute and Benzema in the 27th.
Real were relentless in their attack on Santander's goal post and were unlucky to have not scored twice before scoring the first goal in the 23rd minute of the match through Adebayor. And then Onzil setup Benzema to score the second goal.
Racing Santander who were lacklustre in the first half, did put up some resistance in the second half and scored their first goal of the match in the 70th minute. It was Kennedy Bakircioglu who scored the goal from a fine move.
But then Benzema hit his second goal of the match within the next five minutes to ensure that Santander had no hope of coming back.
