Report: Serena Williams suffers Pulmonary Embolism

New York, Mar 6: Citing medical reports, various media reported that US tennis star Serena Williams has been suffering from pulmonary embolism or blockage that occludes a blood vessel in one of the lungs.

Serena Williams' spokeswoman Nicole Chabot said that former world No.1 player's health is not so good. She also added that Williams is a strong woman and she is in good spirits.

Earlier, Serena Williams underwent a foot surgery when she cut her foot on some glass while she stepped out of a plane in Los Angeles. Later she experienced chest pain and difficulty in breathing. During the medical observation, a a blood clot was found in her lungs which can be described as pulmonary embolism.

The blood clot in the respiratory system causes the heart to work too hard for pumping of blood through the lungs. The pulmonary embolism may cause damage to the lungs, heart failure and sudden death.

Currently, Serena Williams is under the medical observation. We wish a speedy recovery for the great tennis player who won a total of 23 career Grand Slams which include 11 singles titles, 2 mixed doubles and 10 in women"s double.
