New York, Mar 4: According to a new market study, Microsoft's search engine Bing has surpassed Yahoo! to become the world's second largest search engine, behind the global leader Google.

The research study conducted by online metrics firm StatCounter found that Google continued its domination in search engine market with more than 89.94 per cent market share. The data collected in Feb 2011, also revealed that Microsoft's Bing moved to second position with 4.37 per cent and Yahoo! slipped to the third spot with a worldwide market share of 3.93 per cent.

"It is significant that Bing overtook Yahoo! globally for the first time on a monthly basis but it remains a tough battle to claw back Google"s market share. Although Google dipped below the 90 per cent mark in Feb 2011 worldwide for the first time since Aug 2009 it shows little sign of losing its global dominance any time soon," StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen said in a statement.

But in United States, Yahoo! bagged the second position behind Google. Google has a market share of 79.63 per cent, Yahoo! with 9.74 per cent followed by Bing with 9.03 per cent.
