TRS sponsored agitation blocks rail tracks in AP
Various Telangana supporters have decided to organise a 'rail-roko' agitation across 10 districts in Andhra Pradesh. With the express support of BJP, CPI and students and employee unions, the matter has the potential to catapult into a total shut down of the state. A total of 23 trains are believed to be cancelled and many others indefinitely delayed.
Prof Kodandaram, Convenor, TJAC said on the agitation, “All villagers in these districts will come and sit on the tracks, stopping movement. The idea is to send a message to Delhi that they cannot be indifferent to the situation. Telangana is inevitable."
The echo of protests have reached the corridors of Delhi, with many Congress MLAs joining in the protests, the indifference of the Centre towards the matter has irked the Telangana supporters all the more. The extensive agitation is towards this very matter, so that the issue cannot be put aside any more.
K Aravind Rao, DGP, Andhra Pradesh have taken all necessary measures to see to it that the protests are peaceful and said, “We have some info that they may also try and take out tracks. We will be looking out for miscreants and have vigil to make sure no untoward incident occurs."
While students and the public are the ones that will have to face the brunt of this ongoing political agitation, the political parties are using the occasion to gain leverage in the power struggle for authority.
