Former telecom minister A Raja has already spent a fortnight in Tihar jail over his alleged role in 2G spectrum scam. Now, CWG officials will join him over their alleged roles in CWG 2010 irregularities. Former CWG orgainising chief Suresh Kalmadi's two aides - Lalit Bhanot and V K Verma were today (Mar 1) sent to Tihar. Though Raja will be there to accompany them till Mar 3.
According to a Delhi court's order, Bhanot and Verma were sent to Tihar Jail under 14-day judicial custody. The duo were arrested over their alleged roles in one of the striking CWG irregularities. Verma and Bhanot are accused of misusing of deal of Rs 107 crore. The loss happened during a deal with a Swiss firm to provide various logistic supports for the Games.
However, 2G spectrum scam can easily beat the loss caused due to Commonwealth Games 2010 (CWG) as CAG report showed that the nation has experienced Rs 1.76 lakh crore loss over the whole second generation telecom scandal.
Bhanot, former Secretary-General of the OC, and Verma, ex-Director General of the OC, were arrested on Feb 23 by the CBI over their role in the scam. On the other side, Raja has been accused of misusing the "first come first serve policy" during 2G spectrum allocation in 2008. Raja allegedly twisted the rules to benefit a few companies, especially Swan and Unitech.
India, which is already on the boil with burning issues like Jammu Kashmir, Maoists, illiteracy and so on, has faced more jittery over the scams like CWG and 2G spectrum. It seems that these high profile babus are behaving like a Vibhishans (Ravana's brother who ditched his kins for lord Rama) for India. All these scams have already marred the image of the nation at the national as well as at the international level. Now, this is the high time to deal with these scandals with a strict measure.
