Potable water supplied after locals allege contamination
Ghaziabad, Feb 27 (PTI) Residents of Lutfullapur Navada inLoni town were today supplied potable water after they allegedthat groundwater in the area was polluted by chemicals beingdischarged from dye units in nearby Baghpat district.
District Magistrate of Ghaziabad Hirdesh Kumar visited thevillage three days ago after receiving complaints from thelocals, ordered the officials to supply potable water in thevillage, they said.
The villagers claimed that they were forced to consumepolluted groundwater which was contaminated due to chemicalsbeing discharged from dye units in Khekra town in theneighbouring district, they said.
Kumar also held a meeting with the district officials ofBaghpat district and directed them to stop the discharge ofchemicals into water sources while assuring the villagers tofind a permanent solution to the problem, they said.
