Foundation laid for NIT''s permanent campus
Karaikal, Feb 27 (PTI) Union Minister of State for HumanResources Development D Purandeswari today laid the foundationfor permanent campus for National Institute of Technology(NIT) here.
The minister said the Centre was according top priority forprimary and higher education. "Bringing equity in quality ofeducation, both primary and higher education, across the widthand breadth of the country is our goal", she said.
"The government has embarked on the mission of ensuringquality education especially in the remote regions of thecountry," she said, adding the Cenre was making significantfinancial allocation for the development of education.
Union Minister of State for Planning, Personnel andAdministrative Reforms V Narayanaswamy said that formation ofNIT here was a major milestone in the development ofthe region.
Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam appealed tothe HRD Ministry to sanction one more Kendriya Vidyala forKaraikal and increase the number of seats in the existinginstitution.
He also appealed for regional resrvation for the studentsof Karaikal in admission to the NIT.
The institition is now functioning at the Aringnar AnnaArts College campus here.
