New aerospace gallery arrives in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 27: Science literacy was imperative for the development of society and betterment of mankind, PS Veeraraghavan, director of ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) here today said.

"The interest in science should be inculcated in the new generation right from their young age," he said while inaugurating the newly set up areospace gallery at the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM).

He said the ISRO was conducting many outreach activities for teachers, students and the general public to create awareness on the benefits of technology including lectures and exhibitions across the country.

The exhibits at the museum cover events varying from the initial attempt of the Chinese to fire rockets to the upcoming launch of ISRO's GSLV Mark III.

The major attraction of the gallery is the special section on India's space programme. The international pavillion exhibits rare photographs inlcuding the spectacular view of earth rising above lunar horizon.

At the same function, Suresh Das, director, National Institute of Inter-disciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Suresh Das inaugurated the work on the astronomy museum at the KSSTM campus. A Ajayaghosh, Dean, NIIST, initiated the work on the Electrical Museum.

R Vikraman Nair, deputy director, VSSC, presided over the function.
