Saffron terror: Pragya held over RSS worker murder

Bhopal, Feb 27: Saffron terror, again, grabbed the headlines with the another detention in the murder case of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Sunil Joshi, the main accused of Samjhauta Express blast. Madhya Pradesh police arrested Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

However, police sources informed that Sadhvi has been "formally arrested."Sadhvi is already in custody of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in 2008 Malegaon blast case in which six people were killed and many more were wounded.

On Dec 29, 2007, Sunil Joshi was shot dead by a group of unidentified people near his house in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. Media report quoted Joshi's nephew as saying, "I learnt that my uncle was dead only after Pragya Didi left hurriedly. A local RSS leader stayed in our house to ensure that the TV was switched off and the news of his death did not reach my grandmother."

Pragya, who has been charged with conspiracy, murder and destruction of evidence, is undergoing treatment at JJ hospital for several weeks. Madhya Pradesh police, with the special permission from MCOCA, interrogated Sadhvi in the hospital.

Who is Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur?

Sadhvi, daughter of a long-time Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker and believer in its core ideology of "Hindu rashtra", is accused of orchestrating the Malegaon blasts in 2008. Known for her fighting against "injustice" and "anti-social activities," Sadhvi was a part of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Swami Aseemanad in his alleged confessions named Prgaya Singh Thakur as one of the key conspirators in the 2008 Malegaon, Ajmer Dargah and Samjhauta Express terror blasts.

Nation-wide protest was observed when Sadhvi was arrested over her alleged role in the Malegaon blast case. National figures like Uma Bharti and Baba Ramdev supported Sadhvi and protested her arrest.
