Ranchi, Feb 26 (PTI) Jharkhand government will take stepsto develop the international standard Mega Sports Complex, thevenue of the 34th National Games, here into a SportsUniveristy, Chief Minister Arjun Munda said today.
"The state government will do whatever is necessary indeveloping the Mega Sports Complex comprising nine stadia intoa Sports University," Munda said at the closing ceremony here.
His announcement came in the background of JharkhandAssembly Speaker C P Singh, urging the government in hisspeech for the sports university so that the state couldproduce international standard players in future.
Hailing all those connected with the organising of theNational Games for making it a success, Munda said the statehad shown discipline, capability and enthusisam andsuccessfully making Jharkhand a mini-India with sports personsconverging here from various parts of the country.
The Chief Minister also paid rich tributes to Kerala''sOlympian Suresh Babu, who had died here during the games andconveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
Deputy Chief Ministers Sudesh Mahto and Hemant Sorenalso congratulated the organisers.
"Jharkhand is now contributing mineral riches to thecountry. In future it will also give internationalplayers," Soren said.
Jharkhand Olympic Association president R K Anandsaid he had urged IOA President Suresh Kalmadi to awardNational Games to Jharkhand way back in 2001.
"I thank Kalmadiji for doing so....I have seenseveral venues hosting National Games in the past. Butthe one here has been the best. There is enormous talent inJharkhand," he added.
