Govt to give cash awards to medalists from J''khand

Ranchi, Feb 26 (PTI) The Jharkhand government todayannounced cash awards for medal winners from the state in the34th National Games, which concluded today.

"I would like to announce that each gold medalistfrom Jharkhand will get Rs 7 lakh, silver medalist Rs 5 lakhand bronze medalist Rs 3 lakh," Chief Minister Arjun Mundaannounced at the closing ceremony of the National Games at theMega Sports Complex here.

His announcement came in the wake of Jharkhand OlympicAssociation President R K Anand urging the government not onlyto emulate Punjab and Haryana, the two states which gave cashrewards for their medalists, but give more.

Munda also announced Rs two lakh, Rs one lakh and Rs50,000 to coaches who trained gold, silver and bronzemedalists respectively from the state.

Jharkhand finished 5th in the medal list bagging 33gold, 26 silver and 37 bronze during the two week-long games.
