"As far as Justice Balakrishanan is concerned, we can"t say anything. But his two sons-in-law and brother possess black money," stated regional director general of taxes ET Lukose on Saturday, Feb 26.
While investigating their alleged roles in possessing disproportionate assets, Income Tax officials found the names of Balakrishnan's kins and they are - his brother K G Bhaskaran and sons-in-law P V Sreenijan and M J Benny, sources informed.
However, I-T officials refused to bring the names in public as Lukose stated, "It is known to you all. We are investigating how they have got the black money. We will again question the relatives."
While stating about the details of black money holders, Lukose declined to explain the quantum of black money held by the ex CJI's relatives. Though the officials informed, "We are investigating how they have got the black money. We will again question the relatives."
Lukose informed that most of this "money" was accumulated in the last five years and also added, "the probe is in the final stages and is likely be completed by next month."
Balakrishnan has not yet been quizzed by the Income Tax officials regarding the black money investigation and the sources also declined to give a public statement about the matter.
Once the investigation will be over, the report will be passed on to the assessment wing which, in turn, would decide whether to levy penalty or initiate prosecution, I-T sources informed.
