Rezaul H LaskarIslamabad, Feb 26 (PTI) The American arrested byPakistani authorities on charges of living in Peshawar withoutvalid travel documents is a government security contractor andintelligence agencies have called on the US to "come clean"about their network of covert operatives, according to a mediareport.
Aaron Mark DeHaven was arrested in the poshUniversity Town area of Peshawar yesterday and booked bypolice under the Foreigners Act. A court today remanded him tojudicial custody for 14 days.
Reports said DeHaven is married to a Pakistani womanand had been running a company in Peshawar that rentedaccommodation in the city for American citizens.
DeHaven is a security contractor who recently workedfor the US Embassy in Islamabad, Britain''s The Guardiannewspaper reported today.
DeHaven was arrested as another court in Lahore beganthe murder trial of another American, CIA contractor RaymondDavis who was arrested last month after he shot and killed twomen.
Little is known about DeHaven except that his firm �Catalyst Services, which also has offices in Afghanistan andDubai � is staffed by retired US military and defencepersonnel who boast of direct experience in the "global war onterror".
According to its website, the firm offers serviceslike "full-service secure residences", protective surveillanceand armed security.
DeHaven''s arrest came amidst a "worsening" spy agencyrow between the two countries, with Pakistani intelligencecalling on the Americans to "come clean" about their networkof covert operatives in the country, the report said.
A senior unnamed ISI official told the Guardian thatthe CIA must "ensure there are no more Raymond Davises or hisilk" if it is to repair the tattered relationship between thetwo spy agencies.
"They need to come clean, tell us who they are andwhat they are doing. They need to stop doing things behind ourback," the ISI official was quoted as saying. (More) PTI RHL
