Mizoram to unilaterally constitute Boundary Commission
Aizawl, Feb 26 (PTI) Mizoram government said that itwould unilaterally constitute a Boundary Commission to lookinto the border dispute issue with neighbouring Assam.
A press statement issued by three major studentsorganisations said that chief minister Lal Thanhawla assuredthe student leaders who met the former yesterday thatnecessary steps were being taken to settle border dispute withAssam, including formation of a Boundary Commission.
Lal Thanhawla was also quoted as stressing the needfor Mizos to physically occupy and till the land within theteritorry of Mizoram.
Earlier, state home minister R Lalzirliana told mediapersons that he would suggest to the chief minister toconstitute Boundary Commission to conduct indepth study on theborder issues.
"We need documentary proofs to place before the Assamgovernment," Lalzirliana said.
Boundary dispute between the two states erupted anumber of times, the most serious in 1993 when a confrontationwas narrowly averted by the intervention of the Centre.
