Indian trio misses out on Open berths

Chonburi (Thailand), Feb 25 (PTI) The Indian trio of ShivKapur, Himmat Rai and Gaganjeet Bhullar missed out on berthsfor the British Open at the International Final QualifyingAsia, here today.

Kapur (66-73) and Rai (71-68) finished tied 10th whileBhullar (70-73) was 33rd.

Thailand''s Prom Meesawat earned his maiden appearance atThe Open Championship after winning the qualifying.

Prom, a one-time Asian Tour winner, fired a superb secondround seven-under-par 65 for a two-day aggregate of12-under-par 132 to lead Japanese veteran Tetsuji Hiratsuka,Singapore''s Lam Chih Bing and American Jason Knutzon into TheOpen at Royal St George''s in July.

Hiratsuka, whose three victories in Asia last seasonincluded two titles in Thailand, earned his second trip to theOpen with the day''s best of 64 at the Amata Spring CountryClub, while Lam secured his third appearance with a bogey-free67.
