Evacuation of Indians from Libya begins
According to reports, a number of arrangements have been put in place to ensure safe evacuation of Indians from Libya. Two special Air India flights to Tripoli will operate from Feb 26 over a period of ten days. Along with that, two Naval warships will be employed to bring back the Indians stranded in Libya.
The Libyan government has granted permission for two Air India planes daily over the time period of Feb 26-March 7. While one will fly from the Indian capital of New Delhi, the other will be from Mumbai.
Nearly 18, 000 Indians are stranded in Libya.
Libya is seeing a bloody revolt against the 41-year old regime of Muammar Gaddafi. The revolt is in another one in a series of unrests in the Arab World that have already toppled decades old regimes in Tunisia and Egypt.
While the revolts in Egypt was peaceful, the one n Libya has turned violent with President Muammar Gaddafi ordering the army to handle protesters with strong hands. More than a thousand people have already died in the tussle between army and protesters.
