Lahore, Feb 26 (PTI) The counsel for Indian nationalSarabjit Singh, who is currently on death row in a Pakistaniprison following his conviction for alleged involvement interror attacks, has been allowed by a court here to meet himin Kot Lakhpat jail.
Awais Sheikh had filed a petition in the Lahore HighCourt, seeking permission to meet Sarabajit.
Sheikh said he was Sarabjit''s counsel and had visitedhis family in India.
He said he needed to meet his client in jail but theprison''s authorities were not allowing him to do so.He requested the court to issue directions to the jailadministration to allow him to meet Sarabjit.
After hearing arguments yesterday, the court acceptedSheikh''s petition and allowed him to meet Sarabjit.
Sheikh has also written to President Asif Ali Zardariand requested him to take a compassionate view of Sarabjit''scase as it was a "typical example of mistaken identity".
Pakistani authorities indefinitely put off Sarabjit''shanging following the intervention of Prime Minister YousufRaza Gilani in 2008.
Officials have said only Zardari can decide ongranting clemency to Sarabjit.
Sarabjit was convicted for allegedly carrying out bombattacks in Punjab province in 1990 that killed 14 people.
His family says he mistakenly crossed the border in aninebriated condition and was wrongly accused of being involvedin the attacks.
