3 ships for evacuation of Indians in Libya: Vasan
Chennai, Feb 26 (PTI) The Union Shipping Ministry todaysaid three ships would be sent for evacuation of Indians fromviolence-torn Libya.
"Following the request of Ministry of External Affairs,three ships, including two Naval vessels, are being sent torescue the 18,000 Indians in Libya," Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
Cruise liner MV Scotia, supposed to be used for theproposed ferry service between Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu andColombo, was already on its way to Tripoli for rescuing Indiannationals, he said.
It would be used to pull the Indians out of Libya and movethem to safer places from where they would be airlifted toIndia, he added.
Vasan also said his Ministry would take all necessarysteps for evacuation of Indians in Libya.
