UP launches financial assistance scheme for kin of labourers
Kanpur, Feb 25 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government islaunching a novel scheme under which widows of labourers whodied while on service at any industrial unit, will be entitledto financial assistance.
The scheme being launched under the UP Labour Welfare Act1965 by the Labour ministry, will cover the dependents oflabourers working at the "industrial units" in the state, arelease issued by the office of the Labour Commissioner said.
The industrial units are defined as those registeredunder the Factories Act 1948, said the release.
Under the scheme, only the widow of the labourer who hasworked as a "permanent" employee for a period of at least sixmonths in a given industrial unit, is entitled to theassistance.
However, if she is not alive then either the eldest son,unmarried daughter or parents of the deceased can beconsidered for the assistance.
