Chennai, Feb 25 (PTI) AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa todaycharged Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee with hijacking theMinistry to "serve local political ends" and alleged that shehad presented the Railway budget keeping the upcoming WestBengal Assembly polls in mind.
"Mamata Banerjee has predictably presented the budgetkeeping elections in her home state in mind. She has announcedmajor projects for Nandigram and Singur where she had launcheda successful political battle some years ago," Jayalalithaasaid in a statement here.
The AIADMK supremo, with whom the CPI-M has allied inTamil Nadu for the coming Assembly elections, said her statehad "nothing much to exult about" but for a few suburbantrains and a couple of Duronto Expresses, as no new trains hadbeen announced.
"The overwhelming impression that a national resource hasbeen hijacked by the Minister to serve her local politicalends cannot be dispelled or denied," she said.
Jayalalithaa said while there was no hike in ticketfares, a lot of projects announced last year were yet to beimplemented, which she described as an "uninspiring trackrecord" of Banerjee.
"The Railways'' finances are in the doldrums. Nothingimaginative has been done to raise additional revenue. Thiswill inflict huge damage on the national economy and push thelargest Railways network to the brink," she added.
