Kiran leaves for Delhi to meet high command over council polls

Hyderabad, Feb 25 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NKiran Kumar Reddy left for New Delhi this evening to meetleaders of the Congress high command.

The Chief Minister will meet Sonia Gandhi and other AICCleaders tomorrow to finalise the Congress'' candidates forelections to the State Legislative Council due next month.

Elections for 10 seats from the Local AuthoritiesConstituencies and another 10 from the Assembly quota arescheduled to be held next month while elections to six seatsfrom Graduates and Teachers'' constituencies too will be held.

The Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committeepresident D Srinivas held several rounds of discussions on theprobable candidates.

Reddy also conferred with ministers and MLAs fromrespective districts to shortlist the candidates.

A list of probable candidates has been prepared afterthese consultations which will be presented to the AICCleadership for finalising the candidates, Congress sourcessaid.

The PCC chief will also meet the AICC leaders on the sameissue.

The Chief Minister is also expected to discuss theTelangana issue with Sonia Gandhi.

He will brief her about the current political situationin the state and the ongoing agitations for Telangana,including the non-cooperation movement launched by theTelangana employees, the sources added.
