HC refuses bail to Madhumani Tripathi
Nainital, Feb 25 (PTI) The Uttarakhand High Court todayrefused to grant bail to Madhumani Tripathi, who is servinglife sentence along with her husband Amarmani Tripathi afterbeing convicted for the murder of poetess Madhumita Shuklaeight years ago.
A two-member bench of the High Court comprising JusticesSudhanshu Dhulia and Nirmal Yadav refused to grant bail toTripathi on the ground that the petition challenging herconviction by a lower court is listed for final hearing nextmonth, said Virendra Singh Adhikari, counsel Madhumita''ssister Nidhi Shukla.
Tripathi had applied for bail on medical grounds, hesaid.
Madhumani Tripahi, her husband Amarmani and two otherswere convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a DehraDun court in 2007 for hatching a conspiracy and killingpoetess Shukla in Lucknow in 2003.
Later, Tripathi challenged the district court''s decisionin the Uttarakhand High Court which has fixed March 27 forfinal hearing in the case.
