Alagiri to launch Rs 780 crore Cauvery Drinking Water Scheme
Madurai, Feb 25 (PTI) The Union Minister for Chemicalsand Fertilisers, M K Alagiri, is to lay the foundation stonefor the Cauvery Comprehensive Drinking Water Scheme costingabout Rs 780 crore on February 27.
The project, which involves the construction of a120km-long pipeline from Tiruchirappalli to Madurai, wouldbenefit three municipalities, five town panchayats, eightpanchayat unions and 1,430 housing colonies, an officialrelease said.
Elur, Avaniapuram and Tirumangalam are the threemunicipalities that would benefit from the scheme, it said.
The project is being implemented by Tamil Nadu Water andDrainage Board.
Alagiri would also on the occasion declare open housingcolonies worth Rs 63 crore constructed by the Tamil NaduHousing Board, and Slum Clearance Board, it said.
The minister would also declare open the extensionbuildings of the Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital,constructed at a cost of Rs 28 crore, at the Anna bus standcomplex, it said. The extension buildings would house seperatecardiac and emergency wings, the release added.
