TN: Vijayakanth-Jaya unite to fight Karuna
The support from DMDK was announced on the Thursday, Feb 24, on the birthday of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Ahead of the Assembly polls, the AIADMK has the support of 14 political parties including MDMK, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Republican Party of India, CPM, CPI, Forward Bloc and Indian National League among others.
The six-year-old DMDK was formed as an alternative to both the DMK and the AIADMK. Vijayakanth's party bagged more than ten percent vote share in the last Lok Sabha polls. Sources reported that DMDK would contest in more than 45 seats.
The AIADMK-DMDK alliance was declared by Panruti Ramachandran, DMDK Presidium Chairman. He said, "To take a political stand is one thing and to share seats is another. We want to oust the DMK government and that is why we have joined the AIADMK."
The formal declaration of the alliance would be declared by Jayalalithaa and Vijayakanth on Sunday, Feb 27.
