Mizo home minister for commission to settle boundary dispute
Aizawl, Feb 24 (PTI) Mizoram Home Minister R.
Lalzirliana today advocated for a boundary commission tosettle dispute between with Assam, while a students''organisation claimed that the neighbouring state has beenconstructing a school on Mizoram soil.
Home Minister R. Lalzirliana suggested that a BoundaryCommission should be constituted to study boundary disputeswith neighbouring Assam.
Lalzirliana told reporters that he would take up hissuggestions with Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla.
"The boundary commission would study the documentsrelating to Mizoram-Assam boundary and we have to face theAssam government with documentary proofs," he said addingofficial level or political level talks on border disputeswould be meaningless without documentary evidence.
Meanwhile, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP - Mizo StudentsFederation) said an MZP team yesterday visited a schoolconstruction site near Mizoram-Assam border at Bairabi villagein Kolasib district and found that it was being erected insideMizoram territory.
"We demanded that the state government should protectour territory and take appropriate action expeditiously," astatement by MZP said, adding that the Assam Police personnelwere guarding the construction site round the clock.
The MZP said, while construction of minor irrigation bythe Mizoram government at Mautuilui near Vairengte was stoppeddue to pressure from the Assam government recently, thesilence of the Mizoram government regarding construction ofthe school under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan could not be accepted.
